Ballparks

Coors Field

June 2, 2016

I arrived in Denver about 4 hours prior to the gates opening, which meant 6 hours before the game was to start.  I know what you're going to ask, so I will explain.  I like to arrive extra early in case I run in to problems parking and to experience what there is to do outside of the ballpark.  I have some friends who told me that I could park all day for $10.  Pretty cheap!  I found my parking spot, which was about 3 blocks from Coors Field.  I had already bought my game ticket through the Stub Hub app which cost $22.  So, I didn't have to worry about that.  I found a great seat in the left field bleachers in the second row.  These are ideal seats if you want to catch some homerun balls.  I'll get back to that later.  So, I arrived about 12:30pm for a 7:40pm game time.  Yes, I know, that is a little extreme.  I want to be able to walk around in the immediate area and experience some local restaurants and bars before the gates open.  I wore my SF Giants Jersey and hat.  I didn't know how people would react because the Rockies are in the same division, but they were nice.

I ended up at a place called Ian's Pizza.  They have pizza by the slice and local beers on tap.  Pretty inexpensive and just across the street from Coors Field.  The pizza was awesome and the beer was good.

The next place I went to was Falling Rock Tap House.  It is located less than a block from Coors Field.  The atmosphere inside is of an old time bar with a big screen and other small TVs.  I just got a beer here.

The last place I went to before the gates opened was Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant.  This place is located just outside the leftfield gate.  In the picture above, the pub is located to the right.  It is an awesome location and a great place to either eat inside or out, or just sit at the bar.  I just sat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders.  They were great.

It was now time to go inside.  I love to be at the ballpark when the gates open so I can watch batting practice to catch foul balls or homerun balls.  That didn't happen on this day, but I had a great view, as you can see from the picture on the left.  The reason I chose left field bleachers is because usually there are a lot of homeruns hit in this section every game.  NOT TONIGHT!!  There were 7 homeruns hit, but they were all to left center or center field.  Oh well. Great game though.  The Reds beat the Rockies 11-4.

Ok.  Let's talk about food.  I did some research before the game as to what to eat at Coors Field.  Two items kept coming up.  The Rockie Dog and the Helton Burger.  I wait until batting practice is over before I go eat.  The first one I tried was the Rockie Dog.  It was your typical ballpark hotdog but pretty good.  Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the one I bought.

Now the Helton Burger was great.  It is located on the left field concourse right behind the bleachers in the Number 17 Burger Shack.  I just ordered the burger but you can get a combo that comes with your choice of fries or rings, and either a beer, soda, or milkshake.  The combo is $14, which is a pretty good price.  I would definitely get this burger when I go back.

Coors Field and
the surrounding
area is a must!

Happy trails and see you in Phoenix!!
